The Government will roll out Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL) scheme in 35 more Aadhaar covered districts from the 1st of next month. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Veerappa Moily has given a go ahead to roll out the scheme in these districts. With this, the total number of districts to be covered by DBTL will be 55.
The move will add about 1 crore 4 lakh LPG consumers in these districts taking the total number of LPG consumers to 2 crore 12 lakh who will receive the benefits directly in their bank accounts. The districts to be covered include, 12 in Kerala, 7 in Andhra Pradesh, 7 in Himachal Pradesh, 5 in Punjab, 2 Madhya Pradesh and one each in Maharashtra and Goa.
Since its launch on June 1st, about 4 million direct cash transfers amounting to 150 crore 60 lakh rupees in 20 districts of phase-1 have been transferred to consumer's bank accounts.
The Centre had envisaged launch of DBTL scheme with an aim to curb leakages and prevent black-marketing and ensure that the benefit reaches the intended beneficiaries directly in their bank accounts.
