The government has advanced the date for implementation of Bharat Stage, BS V and BS VI emission norms for four-wheelers. It has decided to roll out BS V norms from 1st of April, 2019 and BS VI norms from 1st April, 2021. <br/><br/>Bharat stage norms are emission standards decided by the government to regulate the amount of air pollutants from vehicles. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a statement said that, as per the the Auto Fuel Policy earlier, BS-V norms were to be implemented from 1st of April, 2022 and BS-VI norms from 2024.<br/><br/>The Ministry has issued a draft notification in this regard and decided to advance the date for implementation of the higher level emission standards. It said, the road transport sector should take a lead role in reducing the harmful effects of emissions on environment and climate change. It said, the draft norms for two- and three-wheeler categories will also be notified soon with advanced timeline similar to the four wheeler category.
