Govt to rework coal sampling procedure

In the wake of inferior quality coal affecting the production of thermal power plants, the government today said it will rework the coal sampling procedure. Power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said the process has to be revisited once again and his Ministry is holding a dialogue with Coal ministry to evolve a fair and equitable quality checking process of the mineral.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi, Mr Scindia said his immediate priority is to ensure that fuel supplies are in place for generation of 60,000 Mega Watts and that the committed projects are on line. He assured that the capacity addition plans for the current financial year are well on track.

On the financial restructuring of distribution companies, Mr Scindia stressed that the transmission and distribution losses have to be minimized while ensuring capacity addition in power production.
