Govt to replace 77 crore old bulbs with LED by March 2019

The government has set March 2019 as target to replace 77 crore old bulbs with the LED bulbs and 3(point)5 crore street lights in all urban local bodies in the country.<br/><br/>In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Power Minister Piyush Goyal said, approximately 20.60 crore LED bulbs have been distributed under the Unnat Jyoti scheme and 16.80 lakh street lights have been replaced by LED lights till February this year. Mr Goyal said at present there is no plan to phase out the incandescent bulbs. The average sale of the conventional incandescent bulbs is about 770 million pieces.
