Govt to release additional 50 lakh tonnes of foodgrains to BPL families

The government will release an additional 50 lakh tonnes of foodgrains under PDS to BPL families and export another 2 million tonne in a bid to create space in warehouses. Speaking to reporters in Hyderabad today, Food and consumer affairs minister K V Thomas said, the government also plans to increase the foodgrain quantity for Open Market Sale Scheme to traders and millers, from 3 million tonne to 10 million tonne. He said the ministry is releasing foodgrain stocks to states.
