Power Minister Piyush Goyal today said the government will raise power transmission capacity by 81 per cent in the next 18 months in Southern parts of the country. In reply to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Mr Goyal said the move will help the States like Tamil Nadu, Karanataka and Kerala to get affordable power for their consumers. <br/><br/>He also said 71 per cent capacity addition has been achieved in power transmission in these States. The Power Minister said, the government is working towards converting old thermal power plants into super critical thermal power units by adopting new technologies. He also said government has set a target of generation of one lakh 75 thousand renewal energy.
