Govt to provide scholarship to one crore minority students

The government has set a target for providing the benefit of scholarship schemes to one crore minority communities students in the next two years. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi yesterday, Minority Affairs Minister, Salman Khursid said that 60 lakhs students of such community have availed the benefit of scholarship scheme run by the Minority Ministry so far. He said that the ministry creates the projects and extends assistance for minority communities according to the demands of states. He said that the states should implements these projects smoothly so that such communities can get the benefit.In reply to a question on Waqf Ammendment Bill, Mr Khurshid said that the Central Waqf Council will have statutory powers of monitoring and issuing directives and advice to state Waqf Boards once the Bill is passed in Parliament. The Bill is currently being reviewed by a select committee of Parliament.Earlier, Mr. Khurshid inaugurated a two-day Orientation Workshop for the National Level Monitors- NLMs empanelled for monitoring various Schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Addressing the NLMs, Mr. Khurshid urged them to be objective and impartial in reporting the status of implementation of various Schemes of the Ministry as fair and honest assessment will help the Ministry to fine tune its Schemes. The Workshop has been organized in collaboration with National Productivity Council-NPC. The Ministry of Minority Affairs has entrusted the process of monitoring of the implementation of its various schemes to NPC which is carrying out this responsibility with the help of NLMs.
