Government today said nearly 1.18 lakh manual scavengers and their dependents have been identified for rehabilitation under a centrally sponsored scheme. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, minister of state for Social Justice D Napoleon said 18 states and union territories have identified them for giving loans under the Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation of Manual Scavengers. The minister said under the Integrated Low Cost Sanitation Scheme of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation aims at conversion of all dry latrines by December 2010.
