The Government is committed to provide food security to the common people and the proposed Food Security Bill is an excellent move in this direction.

The Bill has provision of endowing a legal right up to 75 per cent of rural population and 50 per cent of urban population to provides mandatory supply of food grains at subsidized rates. Thomas said that center has formulated a scheme for Construction of godowns under Public Private Partnership mode. He said a capacity of about 150 lakh tonnes is being created under the scheme through private entrepreneurs and central and state Warehousing Corporations.
