Govt to procure 2 lakh 50 thousand metric tons of Rabi-2023 onion to stabilize prices during lean season through central nodal agencies: Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar

<span style="color: #222222;">Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Tuesday informed the Lok Sabha that the government has taken a decision to procure two lakh 50 thousand metric tons of Rabi-2023 onion to stabilize the prices during lean season through central nodal agencies. In a written reply, he said in recent weeks the prices of onion have fallen below ten rupees per kilogram in major mandis in Nashik belt of Maharashtra due to bumper arrival of late kharif crop and expected early arrival of rabi crop.<br />''<br />'' Mr Tomar said the government has directed National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation, NAFED and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation, NCCF to initiate procurement of onion from these markets for simultaneous disposal in consumption centers outside Maharashtra.<br />''<br />''The Minister said total quantity of around thirteen thousand metric tons onion have procured so far.</span><br />
