The government will move the Supreme Court next month on the issue of 4.5 per cent sub quota for minorities within 27 per cent reservation of Other Backward Classes, OBCs in central educational institutions and jobs.
Talking to media after inaugurating 2 day national conference of State Ministers of Minority Affairs in New Delhi, Union Law and Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed said he is in touch with Attorney General G E Vahanvati and they have, in principle, agreed that the matter will be prepared to challlenge Andhra Pradesh High court Judgment. He expressed hope that it will be heard in the Supreme Court in the first week of next month.
He emphasized that the government is trying to give equal platform for justice to both majority and minority and there is no intention to seperate them. But he said special attention has to be given to minorities.
The minister, however, said students who have got in for counselling because they are in the 27 quota for OBCs will
continue to get the entitlement
AIR correspondent reports that decision to move the apex court comes after the Andhra Pradesh High Court annulled the government's decision to carve out 4.5 per cent reservation for for minorities from within the OBC quota.
