The government today said that it will monitor the exports of wheat and non-basmati rice every fortnight in order to keep a tab on the quantity. Talking to reporters, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Harish Rawat said that considering the sensitivity of these food items, their export will be stopped once shipments reaches 20 lakh tonnes. He added that the the Centre will constantly check the situation to avoid further hike in food inflation.
Last week, the government had allowed exports of wheat and non-basmati rice under Open General License. The decision was taken in view of of a bumper production of these crops.
