The government today said it will achieve the tax revenue target for the current year with larger than budgeted indirect tax collections. Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said indirect tax collection likely to be exceed about 40,000 crore rupees in the current year. He said, of the 14.49 lakh crore rupees tax revenue target, 7.97 lakh crore rupees was estimated to come from direct taxes including corporate and income tax and another 6.47 lakh crore rupees from indirect taxes including customs, excise and service tax. He said the tax collections between April-January show an increase of 33 per cent in indirect tax and 10.9 per cent in direct tax.
