Govt to make statement on evacuation of Indians from Libya

The Government today said that it will make a statement in Parliament on evacuation of Indians from Libya on Monday. The issue was raised by the members during zero hour who sought a response from government as early as possible. The Deputy Chairman Rehman Khan urged the government to come out with the statement at the earliest. The issue figured in the Lok Sabha also. Replying to queries from the members Civil aviation minister Vyalar Ravi said Government is making all out efforts to bring all the Indians back from strife torn Libya safely. He said three Air India Boeing 747 and private aircrafts are also ferrying passengers. Mr. Ravi said Water and Food Packets are being given to them at the airport. Sharing the concern Railway Minister Mamta banerjee said her Ministry will send all the passengers from the Delhi and Mumbai to their respective destinations free of cost. An IL 76 aircraft of Indian air force is in Cairo to supplement the efforts of the evacuation. Another plane is being flown soon. The Defence Minister A K Antony has said that two naval ships have already been dispatched which can carry together 1900 people at a time. Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma has said two war ships with medical teams and Marine Commadoes on board will be reaching Libyan Coast early next week. Meanwhile over 1000 Indians arrived from Tripoli in Libya to New Delhi early this morning. With this the total number of people evacuated from the strife torn country has gone up to over seven thousand.
