Govt to make statement in Parliament tomorrow over ban on Geeta in Russia

The External Affairs Minister will make a statement in Parliament Tuesday on the reported ban on the Bhagwat Geeta in Russia .

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mr. P.K. Bansal announced this in the Lok Sabha on day. He was responding to Members’ outrage on the alleged sacrilege of the Bhagwat Geeta in Russia .

The Lok Sabha was adjourned twice on the issue on Monday when Members expressed their anguish over the alleged ban on the Bhagwat Geeta in that country. They sought an immediate revocation of the ban on the holy book.

Members of Parliament cutting across party lines urged the government to take up the issue of Bagvad Gita facing a ban in Russia .

Angry members belonging to various parties took up the issue forcing repeated adjournments of the Lok Sabha on the issue.

In the Lok Sabha, the issue was taken up by Bhartruhary Mahtab of BJD and Lalu Prasad of RJD. They were later on joined by members of other parties.

Responding to Members’ outrage on the alleged sacrilege of the Bhagwat Geeta in Russia in the Lok Sabha, the External Affairs Minister, Mr. S. M. Krishna will make a statement in Parliament on Tuesday on the issue.

In the Rajya Sabha, the proceedings were disrupted twice with the opposition seeking presence of Finance, Commerce and Power Ministers in the House during the reply by Agriculture Minister on agrarian crisis and farmers' suicide.
