Govt to make legal provisions to provide agricultural land to landless people

The government today announced for making legal provisions to provide agricultural land to landless people and land for habitats to homeless people in the country. Addressing a large group of rural people mostly landless, tribals and farmers at Agra the Union Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jairam Ramesh said the government has given this assurance to the Ekta Parishad and it will be implemented.

He said that a dialogue process will be initiated with States to take up steps on the issue of giving statutory backing like MGNREGA .The Minister said that the government would announce a draft National Land Reform Policy within six months.

A spokesperson of Jan Satyagrah told our Allahabad correspondent that with these written assurances from the government the President of Ekta Parishad Mr. PV Rajgopal announced the proposed march by rural people seeking a National Land Reforms Policy will not now proceed to New Delhi.
