The government is planning to link the institutions of higher learning with industry to improve their quality of research. Human Resource Development Minister M. Pallam Raju gave this information during question time in the Lok Sabha today. Agreeing with members about the shortage of faculty in universities, IITs and IIMs, he said the 30 percent vacancy as of now will be filled up during the 12th Five Year Plan. Answering a question as to why no Indian university figures among the top two hundred educational institutions in the world, Mr. Pallam Raju said their parameters are different and not applicable to our country. But it will be the government's endeavor to see that some Indian institutions earn a place among the top ten globally.
