Govt to launch special clean-up drive at 100 iconic places to achieve Swachh Tourist Destinations

The government will launch a special clean-up drive at one hundred iconic heritage, spiritual and cultural places in the country. The initiative which is being taken up under Swachh Bharat Mission aims at making these destinations as model Swachh Tourist Destinations. <br/><br/>An official release said, under first phase, 10 iconic places have been selected for an intensive clean up.<br/><br/>These palces are Vaishno Devi in Jammu and Kashmir, Chhatrapati Shivahi Terminus in Maharashtra, Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh, Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, Golden Temple in Punjab, Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi, Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan, Meenakshi Temple in Tamil Nadu, Kamakhya Temple in Assam and Jagannath Puri in Odisha. <br/><br/>The experiences gained from this phase will be integrated into the clean-up campaign for the remaining 90 sites. The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation will be the coordinating Ministry for this initiative, in association with the the Ministry of Urban Development, Culture, Tourism and the concerned State governments. The State officials have been asked to present a detailed Plan of Action for the clean-up within two weeks.
