Government will introduce a Public Procurement Bill in the winter session of Parliament to ensure a transparency and put maximum information in public domain. The Group of Ministers has accepted most of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries in principle.
Briefing reporters after a meeting of Group of Ministers chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, the Law and Justice Minister Mr. Salman Khurshid said that four committees on procurement of goods, pharma drugs, services and works will directly commence drafting rules and standard templates. He said, October end has been fixed as proposals for submitting general principles for consideration to be incorporated in the bill.
AIR correspondent reports that the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in his Independance Day address last month had promised introduction of such a bill to weed out corruption from the public procurement process and bring transparency in the dealings.
