Govt to introduce bill to check sexual assault on women

The government is planning to bring in a bill in Parliament to check sexual assault on women. This was stated by the Home Minister Mr. P Chidambaram while replying to supplementaries during question hour in the Rajya Sabha today.

In his written reply to the main question, the minister said that it is not true that crimes against Christians and other minorities are rising in the country, particularly in Karnataka, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.

In fact, he said the number of communal incidents in these states has gone down from 204 in 2010 to 170 in 2011. He said the Centre has circulated revised guidelines to the states to promote communal harmony.
