Govt. to introduce 5 new legislations in winter session

Government today said, it will bring five new legislations in the winter session of Parliament to fight corruption. Law Minister Salman Khurshid reiterated the government's commitment to bring an effective and strong Lokpal Bill.

Talking to journalists at the Women Press Club in New Delhi, Mr Khurshid said, the Lokpal Bill will be a widely supported and consensual Bill and will have a Constitutional status.

He said that besides the Lokpal Bill and electoral reforms, a law for Citizens Charter and Citizens Grievances Redressal Mechanism, Amendment or a separate law on bribery by foreign companies and a powerful and strong legislation on Criminal investigation structure of CBI and giving it more autonomy are the government's focus area.

Mr Khurshid said that laws alone are not enough and a sustained campaign is required to root out corruption from the system.

Mr Khurshid said that Team Anna has made important suggestions in their Jan Lokpal Bill and he hoped that debate and discussions with the civil society will continue in future.

Replying to a question, Mr Khurshid admitted that the Government was caught unawares about the changes happening in the society and highlighted by the mass support garnered by the Anna movement against corruption.
