The Government has decided to import an additional quantity of five thousand tonnes Tur Dal to increase its availability and control prices of pulses. In a press release Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry said, the decision was taken in a high level committee meeting chaired by the Secretary, Consumer Affairs. Import of ten thousand tonnes of Tur and Urad Dal is already in the pipeline and the first consignment will reach by 23rd September.<br/><br/>The Committee directed the agencies like MMTC and NAFED to get in touch with States and also with SAFAL to supply imported dals through retail outlets. The long term strategy to increase availability of essential commodities and moderate prices were also discussed in the meeting.
