In Uttar Pradesh the government today decided to implement the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 enacted by the centre. As per government decision a committee will be set up under chairmanship of the Chief Secretary to implement the act . Under the act state governments are required to provide shelter and proper medical help to senior citizens and protect their properties. Besides, tribunals will also be set up to implement the provisions of the act. The government has also decided to return back about 896 acers of land to the irrigation department from NOIDA ( New Okhla Industrial development Authority) which was lying unutilised by the NOIDA. The government has decided to fix responsibility on the officers for alleged illegal transfer of the land to the NOIDA.AIR correspondent reports that the land was transferred to the authority during the previous Mayawati period to develop a planned township. The authority had then paid above 95 crore rupees for the land.
