Govt to hold talks with ULFA leaders today

Government will hold talks with ULFA leaders this afternoon aiming to find a lasting solution to the insurgency problem in Assam.

ULFA leaders, led by Arabinda Rajkhowa, who are in Delhi will discuss with government representatives, various aspects of their charter of demands.

Official sources said, observance of ground rules signed by the two sides, surrender of arms and ammunition and total halt of operations by security forces against the pro-talk ULFA Group will figure prominently in the talks.

Representatives of the two sides including the interlocutor P.C. Haldhar are expected to acquaint themselves with each others' views.

AIR correspondent adds that ULFA entered into formal peace talks with the government and signed the Suspension of Operation Pact with the Centre on the 3rd of last month.

They met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and the Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram in February this year.
