Govt to have final opinion on LOP soon: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Government will soon have a final opinion on the issue of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, LoP, as a member of the selection committees that make appointments in various statutory bodies. Replying to a media query in New Delhi today, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said, government has sought the opinion of Lok Sabha Secretary on how to proceed in the matter.

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan had already rejected Congress' demand for post of LoP. Congress with 44 seats in the Lok Sabha is the single largest party. It is short of 11 members to stake claim for the LoP, for which a strength of 55 is required.
