Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said, government is planning to import pulses by entering into contracts with other governments to bridge the supply-demand gap and maintain stability of prices. He said, the situation of pulses is now under control and their prices have gone down in recent months.<br/><br/>Talking to reporters in Bengaluru today, the Minister said, there is a gap between demand and supply. This year's production is 170 lakh tonnes, while the demand will be around 246 lakh tonnes. Mr Paswan said, the government has maintained a buffer stock, for which it has already purchased 1,13,000 tonnes of pulses. State governments have also been asked to purchase pulses for retail distribution.
