Govt to formulate policy to promote cultivation of fodder

The government will formulate a national grassland management policy to promote cultivation of fodder in the country. Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said this while talking to reporters in New Delhi on the sidelines of a function. He said, the policy will help address the need of fodder for livestocks. <br/><br/>Earlier, addressing the International Grassland Congress, Mr Singh said, the livestock population in the country is about 51 crore and the green fodder deficit is around 35.6 per cent. He said, the government is implementing National Livestock Mission to address the problem of scarcity of animal feed and fodder resources. The Agriculture Minister also said, the country is producing nearly 138 million tonnes of milk which is the highest in the world.
