The country needs about 70 thousand pack houses, each equipped with pre-cooler and dispatch room for onwards transport links. Currently, only 249 pack houses are there in the country. <br/><br/>Releasing the study of All India Cold Chain Capacity assessment, Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr Sanjeev Balayan said, the report highlights that future development focus needs to be more on modern pack houses and refrigerated transport, which are important to initiate the appropriate logistics chain from villages to city centres. <br/><br/>The Minister said, according to report, India seems to have better status in form of large cold storage facility. Dr Balayan said, the gap in cold store capacity is projected at only about 3.5 million tons in space.
