The centre today said that it is working out a mechanism to fast track all cases of rape, molestation and others connected with women, disabled and senior citizens. Describing the 19 year period taken in Ruchika molestation case as atrocious and unpardonable, the Law Minister Mr Veerappa Moily said that classification and prioritisation would ensure that such cases are fast tracked in courts.
The dragging of the case of molestation of the 14 year old Ruchika by the former DGP Harayana Rathore for as long as 19 years has not only brought to the fore delay or denial of justice but also the harassment by police and the politicians sheilding the erring police officers or burocrats . There may be many families like that of Ruchika who have lived in terror and their cases burried under the debris of files that will never see the light of the day . The proposal to fast track such cases has not a come day too soon .
Moily says, While the judicial process can be speeded up , the question is how can justice be expected when the politicians sheild the law enforcers who break the law.
Meanwhile, the former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala today refuted the charge of shielding former state DGP S P S Rathore in the Ruchika molestation case and blamed Bhajan Lal and Bansi Lal for not acting against the police officer. Chautala who has been accused by Ruchika's father S C Girhotra of protecting Rathore, said he had taken strong action against the officer who had been promoted by subsequent governments.
