The Centre has asked the States to designate an appropriate authority at the district levels for identifying economically backward families to ensure uniformity in the interest subsidy of educational loans. <br/> <br/>Students belonging to families with income of less than 4.5 lakhs rupees annually are eligible for such benefits. <br/> <br/>AIR Correspondent quoting official sources reports that the States have also been asked to intimate Managers of the scheduled banks at the district or sub district levels about the details of such families in their jurisdiction. <br/> <br/>This will enable the banks to provide subsidy on educational loans. <br/> <br/>In a communiqu’ to the State Governments, the Human Resource Development Ministry has also urged them to widely circulate or publish the list of identified families to ensure its transparent implementation. <br/> <br/>Educationists believe that the transparent and fair implementation of this scheme will boost higher education in the country with foreign universities all set to open up their campuses in India. <br/>
