The government to encourage a public private partnership in the construction of affordable houses for all in the country. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, the minister of housing and urban poverty alleviation Kumari Selja said the scheme of affordable housing launched in 2009 seeks to encourage state governments to work in partnership models with multiple stakeholders including the private sector for creation of affordable housing stock.
She said under the scheme, central assistance is envisaged at 50,000 rupees per affordable unit or 25 per cent of the cost of civic infrastructure proposed in the project. Kumari Selja, however, informed no projects have been sanctioned under AHP in the current financial year.
