Govt. to double spending on scientific research

Minister of state for Science and Technology Prtihviraj Chavan said the national spending in basic science research would be doubled to 2% of the GDP in next few years. <br/><br/>Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad this evening, the minister said the research in basic sciences and innovation would be focussed in the next few years with an aim to make the country a major Global Science Power so that the fruits of the scientific research would reach the common man. Stating that the decade of 2010-20 would be a decade of scientific invention, the Minister has said the Government would extend all possible encouragement to make the country a major Science Power. <br/><br/>Stating that India’ growth rate in Science sector is much higher than the global average, the Minister said the country has scaled up to 9th rank during the year from the 15th position in 2002. The Minister has further said public private partnership would be encouraged in enterprise based knowledge and fundamental scientific research.
