Government has convened a high-level meeting in New Delhi today to develop a set of guidelines for the protection of school children from any kind of physical or mental abuse. The meeting will be co-chaired by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi and Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javdekar. <br/><br/>Officials of the two ministries, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, CBSE, NCERT and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan will also participate in the meeting. <br/><br/>Ms. Gandhi has requested the HRD Minister to consider suggestions like having women employees as the support staff and bus drivers, conductors in the schools; screening of educational films on child sexual abuse in schools; and popularizing POCSO e-Box and Child line 1098 through NCERT publications.<br/>'<br/>The meeting comes in the backdrop of the recent incidents of child abuse in schools, the latest being the murder of a 7-year-old boy in Gurugram's Ryan International. <br/><br/>The Supreme Court had, on Monday, issued a notice to the Centre, Haryana government and CBSE on a plea by the boy's father seeking a CBI probe into the murder as well as framing of guidelines to ensure the safety of children.<br/>'<br/>The apex court will, on Friday, hear a separate plea seeking implementation of existing guidelines to ensure the safety of children in schools.
