Govt to declare ESZs around 624 protected areas by next year

The government today said that it will complete the long-pending exercise of declaring Eco Sensitive Zones, ESZs around 624 protected areas in the country by March next year. Such areas include national parks and sanctuaries. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said, defining the boundaries of all protected areas is the most important reform which the government has undertaken.Taking a dig at the previous UPA regime, Mr Javadekar said, the NDA has declared over 150 eco-sensitive zones around protected areas in just eight months as against 15 by the UPA government in 8 years.
