The government today said, it is planning to conduct a fresh survey to identify people still engaged in the inhuman practice of manual scavenging so that they are rehabilitated soon. Speaking at the conference of state ministers of Social Welfare and Justice, Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mukul Wasnik said his ministry is planning to conduct a fresh survey to identify persons who are still engaged in manual scavenging, including their dependents. He noted that the National Advisory Council (NAC) has been drawing the government's attention to the fact that manual scavenging still persists despite being outlawed. He said, all our efforts will be made to ensure that manual scavengers so identified are rehabilitated during the current year itself.
