The government today assured the Rajya Sabha that it will come with full facts about the alleged diversion by the Delhi Government of the funds meant for welfare of the Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes to the Commonwealth Games.Responding to a brief discussion on the issue, the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Prithviraj Chavan said that the response will come next week after getting information from Delhi Government. He, however, maintained that there is no question of diversion of funds meant for the welfare of the downtrodden and weaker sections.Earlier, participating in the debate, the members belonging to BSP, BJP, Left, SP and others, demanded action against those responsible for diversion of funds, which they described as a clear contravention of Planning Commission's guidelines in this regard.AIR Parliamentary Correspondent reports that there was heated exchange of words between the ruling and opposition benches during the debate. Both the Houses witnessed repeated adjournments on the issue this morning. While the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 1140 hours, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned thrice till 2 PM. The members belonging to BSP were joined by the BJP and Left, seeking an immediate discussion on the issue. They alleged that the diversion of Rs. 744 crore meant for the welfare programmes of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, is a cause of serious concern and needs to be discussed immediately. The Rajya Sabha Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari, assured the agitating members that he is open to take up the issue under Call Attention notice.
