The government is planning a new law to curb the incidents of spot and match fixing. Law Minister Kapil Sibal said that the new law to tackle this menace will hopefully be introduced in the next session of Parliament.
He said, there is a need for a separate law as Indian Penal Code does not recognize match fixing and spot fixing as offences. Mr. Sibal said, he has already asked the Law Ministry to work on such a law.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has decided to appoint anti-corruption officer with each of the IPL franchises along with a security officer to monitor the movement of players.
Talking to reporters in Chennai yesterday, the BCCI Chief N. Srinivasan said that the board has appointed its anti-corruption chief Ravi Sawani as Commissioner of Enquiry who has been asked to file an internal inquiry report soon to enable a decision on the issue.
In a related development, Delhi Police has arrested three more persons including a former Ranji player from Aurangabad in Maharashtra in connection with IPL spot fixing scandal.
