The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is being observed throughout the world today. This day is observed on the 26th of June every year to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. In a message on the occasion, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said families, schools, civil society and religious organizations can do their part to rid their communities of drugs. In an interview to All India Radio, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik said, the government will soon come up with a National Policy on Prevention of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. He said, the draft policy on drug abuse is already in the process of discussion. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has organised a programme on the occasion in New Delhi this evening. Minister for Human Resource Development, Communication and IT Kapil Sibal will be the Chief Guest and Social Justice minister Mukul Wasnik will preside over the function. Around 800 delegates from the States, departments of the Central Government, NGOs, experts and reprensentatives of UN bodies will participate in the event.
