Govt to call all-party meet to discuss problem of naxalism in wake of Chhattisgarh attack

The UPA Coordination Committee meeting has decided to convene an all party meeting to discuss the situation following Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kamal Nath said during the all party meeting a common strategy will be evolved to check the naxal menace.

He said, the issue was discussed today in detail. The Minster said, the meeting expressed serious concern over the attack and described it as an assault on political democracy.

Kamal Nath elaborated it is important for this reason to involve all the political parties . He said, the Home Minister will be holding a discussion on the issue with the Chief Ministers of naxal infested states ahead of the all party meeting .

In reply to a question, the Minister said that the passage of Food Security Bill was not discussed in the meeting. He however, asserted that all options are open on the issue.

The meeting Chaired by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was attended by Union Ministers A.K. Antony, P. Chidambaram, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Kamal Nath, NCP leader Sharad Pawar, RLD Chief Ajit Singh, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and E.Ahmed from Muslim League.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari said the food law will ensure supply of rice at the rate of Rs. 3 per Kg.

Wheat Rs. 2 a Kg. and coarse cereals Rs. 1 a kg to people. He wondered why some of the political parties are against this sensitive measure.

The Minister said, they should decide whether they want to eradicate hunger or eliminate the hungry people.

Meanwhile, the BJP has said, it is not opposed to the passage of the Food Security Bill and favoured an early monsoon session of Parliament.

BJP wants discussion on each and every points of Food Security Bill in the Parliament before passing it. Briefing reporters in New Delhi on Monday, party General Secretary, Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that BJP has no reservation over the Bill and is also in favour of an early monsoon session of Parliament.

He said that bringing ordinance on such an important bill will not be appropriate as it needs proper discussion.

CPI leader Atul Anjun said the party did not support convening special session of Parliament to pass the food security bill as the Monsoon session was not to far away.

In the Budget session of parliament, owing to frequent adjournments some important bills, including the Food Security Bill, could not be passed as the session ended two days ahead of its scheduled conclusion
