The Prime Minister has said that the government will bring out a status report on Indian agriculture every year before the budget. Dr Manmohan Singh said, farmers interests are paramount and will be fully protected at all times. Dr Singh said he will convene a joint meeting with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar after the budget session to discuss issues relating to farmers. Dr Singh was talking to a delegation of Bharatiya Kisan Union which called on him in New Delhi on Tuesday. Regarding land acquisition, he said a separate meeting will be organised with the Ministry of Rural Development and farmers' organisations. The delegation raised a number of issues including remunerative prices for farm produce, amendment to the Land Acquisition Act, four per cent rate of interest for loans other than crop loan and effective implementation of the MSP.
