The government today said that it will bring a fresh Bill on the Enemy Property in the next session of Parliament. The Home Minister Mr. P. Chidambaram that the official amendments were introduced after extensive discussions but since the members wanted more time to study the provisions, the government has decided that it will bring a new Bill. The Bill was to replace an Ordinance that was promulgated in July this year. The BJP leader Mrs. Sushma Swaraj and Mr. L.K. Advani cautioned the government against bringing another ordinance by incorporating further amendments. They said that if it is done then they will oppose the Bill. Responding to it, Mr. Chidambaram said that they should not harbour any suspicion. Earlier, the Lok Sabha witnessed uproarious scenes and heated exchanges over the proposed amendment Bill and the House was adjourned till 2 P.M. The BJP said that they will allow the Bill only in its original form and not along with the proposed amendments. Mrs. Sushma Swaraj wanted the Bill to be referred to the Standing Committee of the Parliament. On the other hand, the RJD and the Samajwadi Party alleged that the Bill will snatch the rights of the Muslims who stayed back in India.AIR correspondent says that Enemy properties are those left behind by people who went to Pakistan during partition. There are about 2,000 such properties in the country.
