The government today said that it will bring a comprehensive Bill on the issue of land acquisition as soon as possible. The Leader of the Lok Sabha, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee assured the House that the interest of the farmers can not be jeopardised. Responding to the concern expressed by members across the political spectrum in the House over the issue of land acquisition and the firing on farmers in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Mukherjee said that a committee headed by Agriculture Minister Mr. Sharad Pawar is working on the Bill. Earlier, cutting a cross party lines members wanted the government to amend the existing Bill on land acquisition and rehabilitation in the interest of the farmers.
