The government proposes to auction vacant flying slots to airlines during peak hours. Stating this in the Rajya Sabha today, Minister of State for Civil Aviation K.C. Venugopal said the auction process will be undertaken first on an experimental basis. He said this is not intended to generate additional revenue either to the government or to the airport operators but to ensure efficient use of airport infrastructure and optimum utilization of vacant prime-time slots at the busiest airports in the country.
In reply to another query the Minister said the government proposes to set up a National Aviation University. The proposal has been included in the report of Working Group on Civil Aviation for 12th Five Year Plan.
