Govt. to appoint independent monitors for JNNURM projects

Government has decided to appoint independent quality monitors for Jwaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, JNNURM, projects. Officials from the Ministry of Urban Development said that the proposed monitors will be professional engineers of the rank of retired superintendent engineers and above. They will carry random inspection of infrastructure development projects being implemented in selected cities to check the quality. The empanelment of such monitors will be done with the help of the State Governments but the monitors will not carry out inspections in the state where they have served. The system is expected to help to maintain the quality and timely completion of projects. <br/>
