Government will today allot mines to Central and State Public Sector Undertakings, days after two rounds of auctioning of Coal blocks for private companies. Coal Secretary Anil Swarup informed this in New Delhi today. The Coal Ministry had earlier received 107 applications from PSUs like National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd, Steel Authority of India Ltd, Damodar Valley Corporation and Neyveli Lignite Corporation for allocation of 43 Coal blocks. The allotment process for 43 Coal mines to government companies started on the 18th of last month. Gare Palma sector II Coal mine in Chhattisgarh got maximum nine applications, the highest for a single block. The government has already garnered over 2 lakh crore rupees by auctioning just 33 blocks. Parliament last week approved Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015, which forms part of NDA government's reforms agenda.
