The government on Wednesday said it will award 9,000 kilometer of highways next fiscal to achieve the target of building 20 kilometers of roads a day. Transport and Highways Minister Dr C P Joshi after 13th Meeting of National Road Safety Council in New Delhi told reporters that they wanted to project before the masses during the next parliamentary elections that they have built 20 kilometers of roads a day. Dr. Joshi said the target for next fiscal has been kept on higher side -9,000 km- so that the 20 km a day target could be achieved easily.
The UPA government has announced in 2009 its ambitious target for building 35,000 km of roads during five years.
