Govt. to accord top priority to ensure gender equality: Krishna Tirath

GGovernment is according top priority to ensure gender equality for holistic development of women and children. Women and Child Devolpment Minister Mrs Krishna Tirath said a number of schemes have been launched for the development of girl child apart from initiating a volunteer action programme against violence and discrimination.<br/><br/>She said the present laws are been strengthened to effectively deal with these problems. Ms. Tirath said that she is also working to make a code to provide shelter services to women on priority basis. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that gender disparity is on decline and Delhi tops the women empowerment list. A number of programmes were organized on National Girl Child day today to spread awareness about various programmes to make girls equal stake holders in all sphere of life including the decision making.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent Anjali Ojha reports that there are definitely positive changes but evils like dowry, child marriage, female fetecide and infanticide exist even now. <br/><br/>Intrestingly, the census figures show that the number of women in urban areas is less than that in the rural areas. It clearly indicates that techniques like sex determination test are responsible in killing of a girl child. However, as the laws remain to be broken, it is evident that awareness and education are the best way for women empowerment. The National Girl Child day is an effort to this end.
