Govt tightens norms to take on low sex ratio

In a bid to effectively tackle the issue of low sex ratio at birth in the country, the Government has made it mandatory for MBBS doctors to undergo training at a recognised centres before opening up a sonography centre.

The decision was taken at the 19th meeting of Central Supervisory Board, held under the chairmanship of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in New Delhi. The Board is the highest decision-making body for looking into the issue of low sex ratio.

Addressing the meeting, Azad said efforts to curb the menace of foeticide were to be scaled at all levels, including the district level.
