Govt targets $120 billion engineering exports by 2015

The government has set a target of engineering exports up to 120 billion US dollar by the year 2015. This was stated by Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Anand Sharma while inaugurating the Eco Products International Fair and International Engineering Trade Fair in New Delhi. He said that the country's engineering exports have already reached 40 billion US dollar and is expected to touch 50 billion US dollar by the end of the current financial year. He also underlined the need to align polices in that direction to achieve it. Engineering exports include heavy engineering goods, transport equipments and others. Mr. Sharma said that special focus should be given to develop green technologies within the manufacturing sector. AIR correspondent reports, around 250 exhibitors from varoius countries including China, France, , UAE and Singapore are participating in the fair to showcase their latest products and technology. This will help in accelerating eco-knowledge and expansions of green market in India.
