The government is taking many steps to revive sick and loss making Central Public Sector Enterprises, CPSEs. The Department of Heavy Industries, DHI has 17 CPSEs now, which are incurring loss.
According to an official release, government's approach in such cases is to restructure them. Renowned consultants are being appointed through competitive bidding for formulation of appropriate revival plan and strategy so as to enable them to reduce their losses and become profit making organizations.
Besides reviewing the performance of each CPSE periodically, the Department also provides budgetary support. It also provides support for financial investment plans for technological up-gradations of the manufacturing processes of these CPSEs.
Out of 15 PSEs which were revived and restructured recently, 8 PSEs have started making profit. Some of the sick PSEs like HMT, NEPA, NPPC, SIL are under process for approval of the government for restructuring and revival.
